Installation

When your outlet and light switch covers have arrived, it's time to begin the installation. Installing a light switch cover only takes a few minutes. Installation instructions are similar for every light switch type. Even if you have a rocker or dimmer light switch, you should be able to install the light switch cover easily. In no time at all the look and feel of your home can be completely changed with just the look of a brand-new light switch cover.

Step One- Just to be safe go to your breaker box and turn the breaker powering the light switch off to avoid electric shock. When you've shut off power to the switch, remove the old light switch cover. Light switch covers are attached to the wall with two screws that are screwed into the electrical wire housing. Unscrew each screw carefully using a screwdriver and pull the old cover away from the wall.

Step Two- Line up the new light switch cover so the screw holes are aligned with the ones on the wall. Most light switch covers should fit easily over the existing electrical housing. If yours doesn't, make sure it is the appropriate configuration for your light switch.

Step Three- Once the cover is aligned, place a screw in one of the holes and screw it in with a screwdriver. Follow the same step for the second screw. Be careful not to over-tighten the screws as this could cause your light switch cover to crack.

Step Four- Look from side to side on the cover and make sure that it is flat against the wall. If it isn't flat, the box that houses your wiring may be out of place. Remove the switch plate cover and tighten the screws that hold the box to the wall. Remount the light switch cover.
